You Go Guy!!!

Every now and then I really do have to commend Big Daddy. Ever since our first son was born 14 yrs ago, every Saturday morning, except for baseball season when the kids play, he has taken them to Lowe's or Home Depot or both, and then to breakfast. Each time we've had a child, as soon as I would let him, usually when the new baby was around 3 months, they would all trudge on off, early Saturday morning. Now Big Daddy and the boys have always been early risers, the Girl and I like to sleep late. So it's only been within the past 6 months that she has gone with them. But it's tradition and she now jumps right up on Saturday to go with her daddy and brothers.
But, Big Daddy's newest tradition takes the cake! He actually gets the kids up and takes them shopping on Black Friday, yes Black Friday. Now, he doesn't take them everywhere and it's not to shop for Christmas since they buy stuff for themselves, but he does it. My BFF and I have for yrs gone shopping on black Friday. We've always left the kids with Big Daddy. Her kids are 10 yrs older then mine, so they've always been asleep when we got home. But my 2 oldest have always wanted to go. Well last year, there was something at Sears Big Daddy wanted and he was afraid we would be too late since we don't go until 7 or 7:30. So he packed up the kids, hit Sears, Lowe's and Home Depot and then took them to breakfast, came home for awhile and then took them to lunch at Krystal's. I thought it was a one time deal but no, this year he did the same. So hat's off to Big Daddy for his new Black Friday Kid's Shopping Expedition. I've been shopping with my 4 kids too many times and NOT in those circumstances, so hey Big Daddy, You're The Man!!

Time

OK, waiting for 1:00 so I can get the 2 turkey breasts in the oven that I'm fixin' for church tonight. It's the last Wed before Thanksgiving break and it is my friend Tracy and my time to cook. So yes, 2 turkey breasts and corn for me. But then big daddy needed food for his work's eating today so I made a grits casserole (his request), thank you Paula Dean, this morning for that. Then next Tuesday our church is cooking for the food bank recipients and I'm cooking, yes once again, turkey (a big one this time) and corn!! Then Thursday is Thanksgiving for my husbands family here and I get the dressing, mac n cheese and big daddy will do the turkey, so at least it's something different! But I LOVE Thanksgiving cause I LOVE food and Family and Cooking! And we put up the tree on Thanksgiving and we can't wait!!!!!! But, it still isn't 1:00 yet, sigh!

My First Experience

Friday I took the Girl to the doctor since she had been throwing up once a day since Mon and had a low fever the past 3 afternoons. I wanted to be sure it wasn't serious before the weekend. Girl is amazing at the doctor. Walked first in line behind the nurse with her entourage of mom and 3 brothers following. She went up to nurse A in the room in case she wanted to examine her. Then when Doc C came in she climbed on the table and laughed at everything Doc C did to her. Well, Girl will be 3 in Dec and NOT potty trained. Doc C ruled ears, etc. out so she wanted Girl to peepee in a cup to check for a bladder infection. Now I've never been through this with the boys, meaning bladder infection. For them, peepeeing in a cup was a game whether they were potty trained or not, kinda like boys peeing outside, so never had a problem getting a specimen from them. The Girl is another story. I told Doc C this would not be fun, but of course Girl is telling her she can do it. We go to the potty room and I pull her diaper off and it's very warm! She probably went while we were discussing it. She tried to no avail. We got back to the room and Doc C said the lab would be in to put a BAG on her and for us to go shop, eat, whatever and when she went in the bag, Doc C would give me a cup to pour it in and bring back. A BAG!! So the lab came in and put this plastic baggie looking thing on Girl while Girl was screaming and fighting. It stuck to her so the peepee has no where to go but in it. I could tell the tech had not had much experience with screaming memes, luckily I had. When Doc C came in to check the screaming and give me a cup, I of course asked her which boy this reminded her of! She laughed and I said just wait, Girl will remember this!!

So off we went shopping, eating and of course she's complaining it hurts and no, she hasn't peepeeed. Well, I finally had to go so we ran in Target. I went into the stall and took Girl with me to check her. When I pull her diaper off while she's yelling "NO", luckily no one else was in there, I saw TT in the baggie, FINALLY!! So I had to pull that lovely baggie off her while she's yelling and pulling my hand and yes, you guessed it, it SPILLS ON THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, there was still a smidgen in the bag after I finally got it safely away from Girl. So I carefully poured the 1 tsp in the cup and lidded it. Then I proceeded to wipe up the floor. I grabbed Girl, washed us both, went flying through the store and safely deposited the cup back at the doctors.

By the time I got home, the nurse called and said it was FINE!!! No problem!!! Probably a virus!!! Call if she gets worse!!! Yeah, Thanks!!! I did tell nurse A about Target just so she could have a good laugh for the day! I hope this is my first and last experience with the BAG!!!

Another Giveaway

Yes I am entering yet another contest, this one is over at Jeannie's Happy World. I have her button on the side and here is the link for her giveaway:

http://happy-jeannie.blogspot.com/2008/11/good-morning-giveaway.html

It is actually a cookbook on CD. Can't wait to try it out if I win. And if I do, I will invite ALL of you over for dinner!!!

My big news of the week is that I did WIN a Santa letter from Pretty Organizer at Pretty Organized Palace, woo hoo!! Go ahead, I can hear the clapping and congratulations pouring in, thank you, thank you!! I'm taking a bow now, or is that a bow-wow now??

The 6 yr old, C

This one has always been my funniest but my hardest child. He is my youngest son and the 3rd out of 4 children. He KNOWS his own mind and doesn't care what anyone else says. Which can be a double-edged sword. I've always said it's a good thing he is being home schooled because he would be in the principals office weekly. He spent 1 yr at pre-school and luckily had an awesome younger teacher who "got" him. She understood his need to do things in "his" time. He has done a number of firsts that his older brothers did not do: cut his own hair, let his older brother cut his hair, respond to a teacher "my mother won't let me do that", let his brothers hoist him by ropes into BIG trees, physically fight a doctor trying to examine him, and the list goes on. Now I'm not saying my 2 older sons are beyond fault. In fact, my pediatrician told me when W was 2 months old that he would be my strong willed child and she was dead on. But I always say God was just preparing me for C when I had W. One of the most endearing qualities of C though, is his unique ability to not really care what anyone says about him (except big brothers) or to him. He will just happily go his own way. I watched him today skipping non too gracefully out the door to play. He is very tall and lanky so it was a bit comical. I smiled and thought about how these days will go so awfully fast. And it bought tears to my eyes that I never again will go through this stage with one of my boys. True, I will go through it with the girl but it will be different. It hurts that the "little boy" milestones are passing me by.

Great Idea

I have found an amazing blog by an amazing woman. One thing I love is when a woman has a need and finds a way to fill it by being inovative. And that is exactly what Pretty Organizer has done. She has a need to pay off adoption expenses so she is working this holiday as Santa's Secretary. She is in charge of sending out The Santa Letters. Take a look and see what she is offering, you can find her at Pretty Organized Palace and check out the Nov. 5th post. Pass it around please!! And don't forget to order one for yourself, I mean your kids!!

Suck It Up!

Yesterday I was outside on the phone watching most of our kids play. W had the scooter out and was doing spins and wheelies (I didn't know a scooter could do wheelies either) on it. He lost control and came within 2 inches of hitting the Girl. Not a good thing with mama out there watching! So of course I commanded him to put it up and get inside, and of course in that 12 yr old way, he starts going on it wasn't his fault, (HELLO??) and on and on. I told him to stop, suck it up and get inside. Well, the girl at this point is in the driveway with a rake, I didn't know we had that many leaves falling... And with that lovely little sing-song voice you hear "Suck it up, Never give up" to the tune of one of the Yo Gabba Gabba show (Nick Jr.) songs. Then she started twirling and dancing with her rake singing the same 2 lines over and over. Well my friend Abbe could hear her singing and needless to say we were both rolling out of our chairs laughing. Once again I have to remind myself they will say EVERYTHING you say!!!

Then and Now

THEN 2006
AND NOW 2008
"THE GIRL"
Thanks Candid Carrie for hosting this lovely Friday event!!

Big daddy came up with the idea of rolling our jack-o-lanterns down the hill in the backyard yrs ago. Now it is the weekend after Halloween tradition!

Everybody wants to get in on the action

This is Lizzy participating in the Pumpkin Roll!

Here are all 4 of mine and our friend J, The hillbilly in the middle is 12 yr old W who did the pumpkin, the other bozo is the 14yr old. Thankfully he declared this his last yr. of treating.

Scared

I am a very social mama. I do have a good number of friends and one BFF that really knows me best. I enjoy meeting new people and going out with friends. One danger I have found as a SAHM and HSM is the lack of social interaction with women. When my 2 oldest were in public school, I had a whole host of buddies, when I took them out and started homeschooling I now have 1 that keeps in touch. I've made HSM friends but not buddies. I have done direct dales parties the past 6 yrs and have met some great friends, some of who are now buddies, through it. That's how I met Angie and Shannon. But now I've decided to stop with the "home show" circuit. I need more nights at home with the crew and less distractions during the day with school going on. But now I'm scared. How am I going to meet friends? I have church and co-op and such, but how will I satisfy that thing in me that just enjoys meeting other great girls? Let me know where you go and how you go about meeting and greeting and getting to know women that become friends, and if you're lucky, become real buddies.

Me and Us

OK a little bit about me. I'm old, at least too old to have a 2 1/2 yr old without every now and then people asking if she's my granddaughter, yikes that really bites!! But I also have a 14 yr old son, D, a 12 yr old son, W, and a 6 AND A HALF yr old son, C. the there is the 2 1/2 yr old daughter, the girl. Guess you could say we got a late start, that is my husband "big daddy" and I, yes he hates the nickname. I've also had 3 miscarriages along the way so the girl was my 7th pregnancy. I can't imagine if she had been number 7 actually! I went to the doctor when I was 45 thinking I was in menapause and came out of the office 12 1/2 weeks pregnant. My, my, the conversation over the phone with big daddy that day! But I'll save that story for another time. I also homeschool our 3 boys and the girl thinks she is in school also. so I've got 8th gr. 6th gr. and 1st gr. going on 5 days a week. Yes, I am crazy. We have 4 dogs so each child has a buddy. I have done party plan direct sales since C was 4 months but I am winding that down cause I just can't keep up with school the kids activities and somewhere along the way I do cook, happily, and clean, unhappily. I was transplanted to Tn. from Georgia. Grew up in Athens, home of the Ga. bulldogs but am now a true Volunteer. We love sports around here, college football and baseball the most. I was always known as the epitome of the "boy mom" until the girl came along and the title went out the door! But with 3 older brothers she is tomboy except for shoes, jewelry and PINK!! My husband works hard at a job he loves for which I am very grateful. I worked at the local university in the financial aid office just until #2 W, was 6 months old. Then I was able to quit and stay home with the kids. I am also very involved with our church and am the new youth coordinator, which is kinda funny since I am so not organized enough for it! But we will get through it I'm sure. I am so happy I now have kids to take to all the concerts around here I want to go to, and my big kids are grateful they won't be the only ones going with me. I do love to embarrass then, I tell then it's my job. With boys it's easy, they just kinda shake their head and mutter under their breath. But living in boy land does pose it's own set of wonderment's. I can't tell you how many times I pick up the phone just to call big daddy to find out if what they are up to at the moment is dangerous. I never know when it involves electricity, motors and hanging younger brother from ropes around trees! They are so not me! But the girl I get, and love to hear big daddy ask "What's wrong with her?" just so I get the chance to look at him and go "She's a girl", PAYBACK!

Let's Get Started

I did it!! Jumpin' on the bloggin' wagon! Thanks Angie for the intro. I had heard the term but didn't really know what it was about until my friend turned me onto hers. So now I've been stalking all over for a long time until I finally took the plunge. But, actually it was Kat at Sunshine and Lemonade that finally provoked it. I LOVE contests!! And, her 10 week contest is a keeper!! I sooo want to win! Be sure and visit her and tell her you heard it from me!
